Hi, I’m Aryan, currently studying A-levels in Maths, Physics, and BTEC Computing. I recently had the opportunity to spend a week at Kerv for work experience, diving into the world of tech and getting a firsthand look at what it’s like to work in the industry.

So, who exactly is Kerv? They’re an award-winning technology company that specialises in helping businesses transform digitally. They offer a range of services, from guiding organisations through data-driven transformations to building smart business applications and ensuring maximum IT performance. Here’s a quick breakdown of what they do:

  • Digital Transformation: Kerv helps companies use data and AI to speed up their digital journeys. They handle everything from data migration to engineering and even leverage AI to drive innovation.
  • Business Applications: Their focus is on intelligent software, especially using Microsoft technologies like Dynamics 365 and Power Platform, to modernise operations across different sectors.
  • Cyber Resilience: Kerv helps businesses improve their own security posture with managed IT security and compliance services.
  • Managed IT Services: From cloud transformation to outsourced service desks, Kerv ensures businesses have the IT support they need.

Kerv works across industries like finance, government, legal, retail, and non-profits, aiming to make these businesses more efficient, compliant, and secure.

Each day brought new challenges and the chance to connect with talented professionals. It’s made me even more excited about pursuing a career in tech, and I’m grateful for the experience.

Here’s what I got up to:

During my week at Kerv, I got to roll up my sleeves and get involved in several hands-on activities.

Day 1  started with Aaron Ali from Kerv Transform’s Service Desk. We set up laptops, wiped and reinstalled Windows, and managed office inventory. It was a crash course in the fundamentals of IT support.

Day 2 was all about cloud computing. Under the guidance of Thinesh Canagassababady, a 1st Line IT Engineer, I delved into Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365. These training sessions weren’t just theoretical, they showed me how cloud services like virtual machines, storage, and networking are applied in real business scenarios. It really broadened my understanding of how cloud technologies are reshaping the business world.

Day 3 was a highlight, as I joined Kerv’s quarterly new starter induction day. This gave me a glimpse into the company’s culture and values, showing me how they maintain such a positive and inclusive work environment. Later, I shadowed the Sales Development Representative (SDR) team, led by Jordan Waite. Meeting Jordan and his team: Nabil, Tamanda, and Teju, was inspiring. Jordan also took the time to walk me through the basics of being an SDR, sharing valuable insights into sales strategies and the importance of teamwork.

On Day 4, I had the chance to put my skills to the test. I created and pitched a presentation to the SDR team, focusing on Kerv Experience’s services like AI Chatbot and Zendesk integration. This wasn’t just about presenting, it was about applying everything I’d learnt throughout the week. The feedback I received was incredibly constructive, helping me refine my presentation skills and giving me a better sense of what it takes to succeed in a professional setting.
