The UK’s railways are set for a major overhaul as they come back into national ownership. This year will see power finally transferred to Great British Railways through new legislation, as well as a new dedicated passenger watchdog giving the public a powerful voice to raise standards.

At the same time, 2025 has been dubbed by some ‘The Year of the Agent’, referring to the potential rise of human-like behaviours from AI bots and systems to help improve efficiency and drive transformation across key business areas.

The public deserves to know: how is the passenger experience really going to be improved? And how can we use tech, and especially Agentic AI, to do it?

Kerv is hosting a policy roundtable to discuss ways to make better rail transport a reality. The discussion will cover some big questions:

  • How can Agentic AI optimise scheduling, maintenance, and resource allocation?
  • How can we improve our use of predictive analytics built on better passenger data?
  • How can we take friction out of the whole system for passengers, from booking a ticket to getting a refund?
  • What are the limits to AI innovation, and how can we ensure privacy is protected?

We are inviting senior experts and stakeholders to help us answer these questions, bringing ideas together to support people-centred transport.

The event will take place under the Chatham House rule, and will produce outputs including a policy briefing/white paper.
